Instead the beginners' class will be on Tuesday, 3 - 4.30

And the senior class will be from 4.30 - 6.

The venue for the following lesson till around August will not be the AVA room.

The school will provide us a classroom so we will keep you informed.

Take note that the SCHOOL GUITAR will not be available also, so PLEASE PLEASE remember to bring your own guitar. Thank you. :)

Some updates here for you :

Firstly, there'll be guitar lessons on this march hoildays. Hooray!

It'll be held on this coming mon [14th] from 2-5pm.

And this coming tues [15th] from 2-5pm too.

So yeah, there'll only be two lessons for the holidays which i think is not enough :(

But guys let us all practise hard at home!

Syf is nearing and we MUST do our best!

Secondly, please note that :

There'll be a Full Dress Rehersal on our tues lesson so please remember to bring your stuffs.

- For guys : Your black working shoes + white long sleeve + black long pants

- For ladies : Your black cock shoes + costume + stocking[ have you forgotten about that?]

Please remember to bring them, okay?

For ladies this should be how your shoes look like.

It shouldn't have any printings or patterns on them and should be all plain black.

The heels can be a bit pointy but not too high (if not, you'll have difficulties walking)

As for the boys this should be how

To the beginner group:

Try to be more attentive in class like what Mr Paul said, you have to be committed and willing to listen to the lesson so you can learn something. I'll be anticipating to see improvement! Jiayou! :D

SYF Practice @ Republic Polytechnic on the 8th March, 7-10PM.

-There will be transport provided back and forth.

-Dressed in Guitar T with school shorts.

-Everyone must be ready by 5PM sharp.

-For those who have structured lessons like the Sec4s or Higher MT, whichever lessons ends at 5/6PM, pls leave ard 4/4:30PM, to get ready, wash-up/shower.

For those who had ordered the Guitar Tee, but have not make the payment of $15.50 are :

Sorry, this is the rule. Please pay as soon as possible, there's no time to delay the payment already.

I have to collect the money within this week because the supplier is rushing for the order list.

As some of you may not know, the sec 1s and the alumni's guitar tee actually went for the 2nd round printing.

The SYF group had received their guitar tee already.

The juniors, seniors and alumni's tee supposed to go for the printing together.

However, some of payment was not made.

That's why, we gave everybody more time to think whether you all want to buy and more time for you all to come down to make the payment to us.

And the final deadline will be : Next Friday (13th Aug)

We hope to get things done fast and well .

Please DON'T make things difficult for us , okay??

There will be NO Guitar Camp this year. ):
Im so sorry, but it's cancelled.
Officially cancelled.
Reason: The school is concerned about the second outbreak of H1N1. So to prevent more H1N1 cases, we're not supposed to organise camps.
I know it's the first time in 'history' tt HS Guitar Ensemble is not organising a camp,
So im very very sorry.
But on the contrary, we'll update you guys again if there will be any Guitar outings/gatherings. (:

There will be a guitar gathering on the 4th of September, Friday.
It is also the day before our school hols. (:
It is compulsory for the Secondary One, Two & Three.
Sec4's and alumnis can come to have fun if you're free ! :D
But, studies is the priority !
Gather in the canteen at 12noon, right after school dismissal.
Lunch will be provided.
But if you're still not full, then you'll hafta buy food from the canteen.
Meanwhile, we'll be taking attendance while you eat.
Gather in Guitar Room after lunch, 1pm.
Ohya, attire would be your PE tee-shirt.
But if coincidentally, your PE tee-shirt is in the washing machine;
Then its okay, you can bring your class tee or any school-related tee. (:

Hello guitarists, I have a few announcements to make. (:

Firstly, Guitar Ensemble needs to start collecting Guitar Fund.
I hope $2 per month is not too much ?
Soon Min will be in charge of collecting the $2 for the Sec 2 people.
While Sabrina will be in charge of the Sec 3s.
The reason why we're starting to collect guitar fund, is because we decided to celebrate everyone's birthday.
So of course we need some money to buy the cakes, card and all.
Everyone's cooperation is kindly appreciated. (:
And anyone with trouble forking out the money, seek Emily for help. :D
Im not trying to say that she's rich. Anw, she'll help you with your problem.

Secondly, those that cannot make it for guitar during Tuesday/Friday;
Please make it a habit to inform the person that is marking attendance.
Or maybe tell your friend, so that he/she can tell it to that person on duty.
If not, that poor on-duty person hafta look for your number and call you up, chasing for your reasons.
And, lame excuses are not accepted. (:

Lastly, there will be a 1-day Leadership Course for the Lower Secs.
Which means the Secondary 1s and 2s.
Details are not confirmed yet.
But cost of the course should be around $65 from your Edusave.

Though you've failed in achievin your goal of gettin gold or silver,dont be disheartened.We stand up from where we fall and we learn from mistakes.Whatever that happpened had happened and we should face up to it!We should be looking forward to the future and not brooding over the past.Those in secs 4 i understand that this is your last syf and you hope to scored well in it.But since that's the case of the result,let's put our effort and strength together and build up the new generation whereby they can go for the syf 2 years down in place of us.We believe in Mr Ong,we believe in ourselves and of cos we believe in our new batch of guitarists!That's what we always believe in and we shall work hand in hand in achievin that.
I understand that you people felt that you've not done Mr Ong proud and had disappointed him.But does anyone of you know that he also felt the same way as you people?He felt that he had let you guys down again for those in secs 4.The pain and diasppointment you guys are feelin is just the same way as the way Mr Ong is feeling.Seeing you guys so sad,it double the impact for him.YET, he tried not to show his sadness in front of you though he finally shed a tear when he no longer can control.Does you guys know how noble he is?

because it'll leave a mark there when we want to

4. GIRLS !you all should knw by now what to wear inside ,ya ?

5. BOYS !Get your hair done properly .

You all are gonna have SYF soon! Some will be having their first SYF, while the sec 4s and 5s will have their second one (I know it's 3rd for joanne lol).

Well, no matter what, put in all your effort in practising! :) It wont go to waste, Im sure. Well I havent really heard the two SYF songs, so will go down someday to see you guys!

If you're taking your O's this year, be chill and manage your time well :) all of you are good students, I bet your results arent bad ;) So dont give yourself too much stress!

Guitar outing has been changed. o: Date's still th same though. Here's th new schedule. (:

1pm - 3pm; Ice Skating @ Kallang Leisure Park.
3pm - 6.30pm; Bowling @ Kallang Leisure Park.
6.30pm - 7.30pm; Back t school.
7.30pm onwards; Dinner, caroling, etcs. In schl till next day.

-Please have your lunch before coming, as we wnt be eating till dinner time.

-Long pants/jeans are advised, as it'ld be cold @ th skating rink.

-Home clothes are fine, cause we're only entering schl @ 7.30pm plus, which is alrdy quite late & thr's no one in schl.

-BUT, please bring along a set of school-based attire (guitar tee/class tee/uniform) t change into th next day, cause if nt we might get chased out of schl. -.-

-If you dntknw how t get thr, you can meet Waner @ Hougang, or me @ Kovan, & we'ld go tgthr. (: If I'm nt wrong, we'ld be taking th train t DhobyGhaut, thn taking a bus 16 frm Park Mall t tht place. Meeting time will be arnd 11.30am. (T be confirmed again.)

-Amt of $ t bring; @ least $30. Although it seems like alot, this amt of money is actually paying for your own fun- ice skating & bowling, & nt even for your food. So please understand why it's this price.

Hi whampy.

I guess we should be expecting this once we started the GUITAR. thing. I know, it was very cool and fun at the beginning. But all the good things must come to an end, no?

For those who have changed their nicks, I have nothing to say. For those who have not, thank you. Btw, there's only 5 people left.

Actually, it's all right if they decided to change it. Perhaps they got sick of it/ thought that it's weird/ wanted something new. Some may say, it's only the msn nick! We still love guitar! Our passion for guitar isn't just based on our nicks. Yep, you guys are right, so start proving to us that the passion is still alive, and practise hard for your SYF next year.

Huisi is right. Somehow the unity is gone. As a matter of fact, I only felt the unity once. And that was during SYF'07. Thereafter, people started to skip lessons or for whatever reasons.

Well. Im still bothering over what one of the guitarists told me. I asked for the reason of the change in nick. Xxx said will change back later. (& i know huisi's is very upset becos of xxx).

So many days has past. It's still unchanged.

It's all right. I've come across this a lot of times.
And I will never ask about it again, it's always, always, disappointing.

Perhaps I should just remove GUITAR. too, yep (:

P.S: This entry is not to force everyone to put GUITAR. back (and I know even so, it wont be all). It is not to put you down too. Just something I want to say.

Its just how saddening it is to see the HS guitarists lose their passion for guitar.

Every small little act shows everything. Including removing the word GUITAR infront of your display name. I know that we had put it for a very long time, but I can also tell that we're not as united anymore. People not attending for practices and blah blah. And now this. And oh yah, I still remember one thing. Remember people (my batch)? How eager were you to help Mr Ong during the juniors' classes? How much were you looking forward into coming to their lessons? And now? Not at all. The usuals stayed, and the rest strayed away. It pains me, seriously. I bet Mr Ong would feel the same too. I really appreciated those who stayed and helped. And the seniors! They were busy but they went for the extra mile, they came for guitar. Thanks alot too! :D

Probably we get sick and tired of the name. Yes, just as well. Let's all change it. No point putting the word there anymore. But, I'll leave it just there as I dont bear to change it.

Guitar Performance

YOOOOOOO! Whampy is here again!

Yay, so our guitar ensemble did our first small performance on the so-called stage in courtyard yah! I really appreciate all those who turned up cos you all are the best! Anyway, the performance was quite a blast, although we didnt really played that well due to lack of practice but yet, there were still a number of audience and they really applauded for us! -Clap.

Must thank Kokwee too, I think he was the one who asked his fellow friends to clap for us (I think). Thank you very much! :D I wont blame the rest of you who didnt volunteer for the performance as I understand that you have your other commitments. But dont let Mr Ong down okay, try to come if you can!

And and, you can show your devotion to guitar AGAIN, as there's another performance at the same time, same venue this friday 23rd of May! Yesyes, and let us practice well yah (I do not want any mistakes again)! What songs to be played will be confirmed by tmrw during guitar practice. Remember not to be late!

YAY that we'll be performing for chinese new year celebration! I heard that there's rehearsal this coming monday, 4feb, but what time? (Inform me if you know! :D)

And yep, we'll be calling on Mr Ong on the 3rd day of lunar new year, saturday. I hope you guys still remember the pact of exchanging gifts on that day! Hahahah, a $10 gift! (It's quite expensive though, haha).

It's the holidays!

Yoyo people! :D

I heard that there won't be guitar practises in the holidays? Why? Well, we'll be having our guitar ~~camp~~ chalet somewhere between 15 to 31 december. Faster book and collect money okay! Hahaha. Do ask your parents if you're allowed to stay overnight and inform Wan Er asap :)

There'll be a meeting on the 15th of Nov, Thursday; regarding the NYAA booklet. (I'm not sure of the time though). Do spread the news and attend the meeting! :)

Chalet's on 17th to 19th of December! :D

3th, Tuesday. MrOng went through th chords in Eb key for You Are Beautiful, and we played Old Joe Clark. Huisi, edna, joel, karen, joanne performed. Hahahaha. We've selected sections leaders for melody, chords and bass! They are:
Melody: Joanne & Huisi.
Chords: Janer & Joel.
Bass: Lena & JiaHui.
Congrats to them! :D

5th, Thursday. Sec ones came and MdmTan briefed them about guitar, I guess. Cos I wasn't there. Someone else update about it! Huisi! Haha.

Currently. We're working on something. Can I say? Hmmmmmm, well, th guitarists know. Just hope that things will go on smoothly! :D

Guitar Camp 2007! ♥

Mostly reached school around 7plus. Briefed by MdmTan, then th instructors.
Squirrel & tree game: Okay, it was chaotic. But everyone enjoyed it, haha.
Sea-rafting: We were divided into 2 teams, th Gui & Tar. Gotta build our own rafts, & both teams got th same design at th end. Th Gui team had their raft tied together with th bench, haha, then they got th strings out & re-tied. Off to th waters! Gui's barrels started to drop off. Screams everywhere laa, haha. MdmTan, MrOng & instructors watched, laughed as we screamed. It became a four to four race then.
Gui- Joel derrick huisi chantel.
Tar- Soonhock kokwee cherlyn karen.

Th race ended, Gui won :) Some went to bathe, while others unknot th strings. Briefed by th instructors. Back to school.

Tea-break.
Continue: Then had to touch others' knees & they've to touch yours -.- Back to guitar room, talked about what could you've done, as a member of th team/ individually. Lena made everyone roared in laughter, by her re-acting of what happened to Gui's raft being tied to th raft, hahaha.
Blindfold game: Divided into 3 groups. First, we had to find our group members by any means, except talking. We did it. Second, gotta re-arrange ourselves in th order of our birth dates. We did it too, amazingly. Third, search for an object that was on th floor, and make a rectangle with it. Chantel & derrick helped us with it.

Dinner.
Infinite circle: Partnered up, and was given 2 strings, red & yellow. Had to untie oursleves. We did it by 7.85secs :)
Th journey forward: 40 mousepads were placed in a box, and we each had a number to step on so we had to step on each number consecutively in a time limit (in this case, it's 45seconds). We did, and we had finished it in 35 seconds! (Huisi's blog).

Did th feedback forms, got ouselves into a circle, bade goodbye to th instructors & finally NYAA is over! Hahahaha.

Free-time. Then Just follow law, provided by cher, in th music room. Soonhock came to have a briefing for day2's amazing race. After then, th junior girls slept in th music room. While sec4s slept in th guitar room :D

Breakfast @ 0700.
Amazing race @ 0900. They had to count beans, go to punggol south park, chij church, sengkang hub, kovan's music school, th other stations, we didn't manage to complete. Back to school. Lunch. Secret code game. Briefing by soonhock & kokwee. WanEr's yi-er-san mu tou ren. Kokwee's water games. Some got really wet, yea.

Pack up. Prize presentation. Guitar group photo. Break camp. Home.

Tuesday, 26th of June: Guitar meeting. Met up with MdmTan & passed her our nyaa forms, seven dollars, and gave WanEr our camp shirt's size :)

Thursday, 28th of June: First guitar lesson after one month of school holidays! Everyone was soooo excited, and happy about it :) MrOng taught us Old Joe Clark. Omg, it rocks so much. Practice, practice & practice, people! :D We can do it faster & faster! It's so cool laa, haha. Then he wanted us to fill in th chords for You're Beautiful, by James Blunt. Ooooooh, I think this is nice. We get to learn to listen to chords :)

I guess there'll be lesson next tuesday. And good news, I think we don't have to bring our own guitars, and use our syf guitars instead! Well, not so sure though :) But just hope it's true laaaaaaaa. I'm sure everyone miss their syf guitars.

26th of May. Guitar saturday performance @ block 909!
Most of us reached school around 2, and started practising. Mr ong came at 5plus. Practised & headed for 909; it was just beside school -.- So we got ready & went for dinner. Chionged back to school for toilet break, hahaha. Everyone ran :D Okay, then got on stage. Performed 7 songs, & got interrupted thrice. After th performance, we went back to guitar room. & returned our syf guitars ): Then, hougang point. Some of us had mac, others just stayed & talked. (:

28th of May. Cleaning of guitar room!
Met up at hgpt's mac. Mr ong taught us how to change guitar strings (: Some cleaned th windows, swept th floor, re-arranged th guitars.

1st of June. Guitar outing- Steamboat!
We reached marina south, & started to eat. Hahaha. There was wangda, ngeesong, choongwei, banheng, heqin, benjamin, derrick, kokwee, huisi, jolene, junling, joel, wenjie, karen. Few of us went to bowl at 8plus & went home. Derrick played arcade -.- Hahahaha, th seniors continued to eat. :D

Guitar today. Mood: HIGH. :D (oh whatever, we're high whenever there's guitar. HAHAHA)

Learnt Copacabana's strumming pattern and chords and how to read musical notes today. Erm so yah, everyone please remember to practice your guitar daily and dont think that there's no syf coming near then you dont have to practice. Continue to practice and upgrade yourself to a higher level. But we have a new goal, pass the Yamaha grading test and get into Grade 8 or 9! And also SYF 2009 (GOLD)!

Please check your attire and grooming as Im sure everyone dont want to give a bad impression of ourselves for the sec ones, as far as I know, they're recruiting 48 sec ones. & continue to tag often. :D

" Cher said she wanted to cry when we played th last part of I write th songs. Yea, afterall, as we finish performing our two songs, syf will be officially over. Over. You knw, you'll miss th times how we kept practise & practising those two songs. Just for Syf.

If we've gotten gold, perhaps we won't have thght abt th Process. Yea, th process was what that matters. More than th result, definitely (: Remember th saturday guitar practises? How we rocked our sch canteen with sway (remix) & other songs? We shared ghost stories & spent lotsa great times tghter, laughing Whenever we didn't play well for our 2 songs, we'll get so demoralised. I remember how th chords for I write th songs affected chantel's mood for a period of time. One week of guitar lessons during th March hols wasn't boring at all, to us, we were having fun :D Th guitar pple, all of them, rock so much. I'm so glad I didn't give up on guitar. I'm so delighted that cher & I stayed. It's sucha blessing, to be able to find these pple in Hs Guitar Ensemble.

Many of us prayed to God, hoping that we'll do well, we'll get Gold.

'Hougang Seconday School, Siver'. We fell, hard. We could imagine ourselves sreaming & cheering when we get our desirable result. But, things didn't turn out th way we expect. 'Dear God, why did this happen? I thght you wld bless us.'

We cried, & as we walked out of th hall. Thr was only one song on my mind: I write th songs. I sanged with tears.

But now. Don't you think 'Together, we rock to th same beat.' finally came true? (: "

" Went into the guitar room, silence again. Mdm Tan, Mrs Cheng & Mr Ong talked to us. Huisi, Joel, JongChi & i just kept crying. But we all realised somethings- That it really isnt the result that matters, it was the process. & I can really relate to this. Cause before Arts Fiesta me(& Huisi and some others) really disliked some people. But the rehersals together made us realize that they were actually quite nice people. I saw them crying, & it showed me how much they actually felt for this Family, while they gave us the feeling that they disliked guitar at first. This process & experience really made me see the actual sides of most of the people in this Guitar Ensemble, or rather, Family. & i have really made alot of friends through Guitar. I'm thankful for that & that is enough. Silver, Gold. It doesnt matter. Cause what we must understand is that in the end, it's those memories & friendships that will last. "

" 'GT005 hougang secondary school... silver' dis is the onli thing tt keeps reflecting on my mind ytd. when we out of the con. hall... most of our eyes r red... we went to the toilet to cry... i cant stant it... huisi sae she was shocked... after tt we went out.. wan er asked us to go closer... i saw nee huai's name on her phone... i turned around n cried... i felt sori for the seniors... reali sori... they put down so much hope on us... n we let them dwn... i felt reli bad..ms karen said silver is always beta den bronze or COP... the most important thing is nt the cert... is the process n the enjoyment... " we played quite exceedingly nice, especially ' I write the song. ' until i want to cry lehx.. i was playing the song halfway through. BUT the song was so touching. first time felt tat way lehx. :))) thought we could get a gold. but in the end....

Hi, Im whamp. (Huisi)

It has been 25 days since we had our guitar SYF on 19th april. Nevertheless, I shall blog this as it might have a great significance for our SYF 2007. Like for example, when we get our Gold in 2009, we shall look at the archives and say," Yay. We have achieved our goal we had in 2007! :D ".

On 19th april, we had our long-awaited guitar SYF. We came to school, nervous but happy at the same time. We changed to our costumes and waited for the bus to fetch us to the Singapore Conference Hall where they held our SYF. We headed for the Tuning Room as it was our turn soon. We left the Tuning Room and went in to the hall. We walked in and bowed to Mr Ong. We played our both SYF songs - Sway & I write the songs. It was amazing. I really felt that everyone of us were really swaying to the rhythm of the songs. As in literally, not physically. Everyone had their heart in the song, enjoying the song, not bothering the judges who were sitting up there. We smiled at Mr Ong as he was smiling at us and we know that he really did enjoy conducting us.

Both songs ended, we stood up, bowed and walked out of the hall. We exchanged conversations immediately like:
1) "We played flawlessly, right?"
2) "Both songs were great! We played perfectly!"
Yah. We played flawlessly, Im sure. Many of us felt like crying as we walked outside. We didnt let our seniors down as we knew that we did our best and all our hard effort didnt go down the drain.

Then after all the 20 schools had played their songs, it's time for the results. When we heard "GT005 Hougang Secondary - Silver"... We were shocked as we unexpected that we would get a Silver. We broke down. There were calls from seniors but I only remember Nee Huai called when we were waiting for the buses to come. I can only hear her saying that we did our best and we didnt let the seniors down. Cause many girls were crowding around Wan Er who was holding the phone putting on loudspeaker. Broke down AGAIN (emphasize on AGAIN).

We went up the bus, the atmosphere was definitely different from that morning when we came to SCH. Sniffing sounds and no one was talking at all. When we arrived back at school, there were many students crowding our bus.. Expecting to hear from us. We took our guitars and walked briskly to the guitar room, not wanting to let the students see our red and swollen eyes.

And then in the guitar room, Mrs Cheng, Mdm Tan & Mr Ong briefed us. Mr Ong's words made all of us tear. We were really touched and grateful to him. After all, he had put in a lot of effort and time into us, HS Guitar Club.

And I felt that Chantel's post about SYF expressed what we felt deep down in our heart. This was what she said,

So what if we had a Gold?
We would only be rejoicing and be proud of our achievement.
Getting a Silver has made me realised that the results are not that important.
It's all about this Guitar Club.
The road to SYF was more significant.
It was the bonding between us, that led us to be united and closer to one another.
Going through difficulties and helping one another out.
We'll cry and laugh together.
We spurred one another on, to practise guitar regularly.

Mr Ong, he's like a father to us.
He's always pleasing us, like his own children.
He's so understanding whenever we had reasons not to attend guitar lessons.
He's patient, he'll make sure that we got everything that he taught us.
I'll just find enlightenment in his smiles.
He's a one-in-a-million instructor. (:

I remembered the first time Mr Ong gave out the "SWAY" scores.
Most of us thought we couldn't do it, as the introduction was a challenge to the melodists that time.
They had to play it fast and clear.
However, with much practise & with the help of our seniors.
We have overcome it!
I was a chordist and I didn't know how to mute the parts when I played the verse and chorus.
With Ziyang and Wangda's help, I could, and I was so glad! (:

Ngeesong, a BIG thank you for teaching me how to play the Flamenco style!
It was great to learn a new technioque! (:

When Mr Ong gave out the scores of the second song, " I Write The Songs",
we (chordists) saw that there were so so many chords that were stranger to us.
Like 20 over chords!
Then Kok Wee said, Mr Ong will surely change song, so difficult!
We took a long time to learn the chords and memorise the whole song.
It was really a big obstacle.
Another challenge for the chordists was to learn the "B key".
I didn't want to play that part when Mr Ong asked for our opinion.
I almost gave up on the "B key" chords.
With Kokwee and Ziyang's help, I did it!

With all these difficulties and obstacles, we overcome it with one another's help.
We needed one another.
Through all theses, we have found out how important we are to one another.
We have held on together, pressed on and have come this far.
We're all in this together!

Yup, she is right. We're all in this together, never seperated! We had our roles and parts when we're playing both songs, like having acted out in a play. But we're doing in a form of music. Chordists, Melodists and Basists each play an important role. Imagine a guitar ensemble without each of them, it's just awful the sound is, isn't it? And remember Ignatius's sardine story forever! :D

HS Guitar club is more than a CCA to us. It's like one big family together! We shall never give up and continue to reach out for our goal - Getting a Gold in SYF 2009! I know the seniors dont have a chance anymore but remember this, WE WONT LET YOU DOWN AND WE WILL GET A GOLD!

Together, we shall rock to the same beat! :D
